Below is a little "Sandia" savonius windmill. I put this one together to see how well these things run. And it runs well!

You can view a short video here ( 1.6 meg ). First it shows how much my HAWT windmill has to change direction to follow the wind, and then the little VAWT in operation.

The VAWT is 1000mm high and 280mm wide. I was surprised how fast it ran. Click on the links below to see the plans I used. I got these from http://www.fieldlines.com/

My new workshop

The shed was supplied by Garage World Mackay ( they have been good to deal with ). Its 9 by 6 meters and will make a great little workshop.

There are some advantages to getting up early every day.

Another VAWT design. Called a Lenz2.

This one is based on the work of Ed at http://www.windstuffnow.com/

Driving a small generator, this design is worth looking further into.

Then I built a larger version to drive a F&P motor. These are the wings.

And the finished windmill.

Recently I visited the Windy Hill windfarm.
