There are other reasons why electrically the Pico may not work properly in host mode (e.g. inadequate pulldown resistors). Was micro-usb ever intended for host use?
If there is a problem with the firmware I want to fix it. If there isn't I would prefer that you don't imply there is and not state in open forum
