Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.
Instead of messing with bicycle computers and stuff, I thought why not paint stripes on the hub of the mill/whatever device you have, to get an idea of rpm.
I had these stripes, (are they stroboscopic?), on my old record player.
You could have a set of stripes for cut-in, and what ever you wish to know.
Anyone tried this? howto do it? cheers, J

The system you are talking about was to adjust the turntable speed to within a few percent of the correct speed.
Do a search on optical sensors like found in PC mice. Or slotted disc.
Good luck

I'm working on a blade-pitch system that actually allows the windmill to speed up instead of slow down. When it's done, I intend to paint one blade white so it can be tracked with a video camera. If you're interested in a windmill's rpm, maybe this will work for you as well.Nothing difficult is ever easy!
