I was visiting an old friend today and he said "I have something of yours", and grabbed this thing from a dusty shelf. 
Its a little demo model I put together about 12 years ago when we were building a solar car for the World Solar Challenge. At that time we were building the car around a F&P Smartdrive motor, so I put this together to show the public how it worked. Its a motor from a old floppy disk drive, looks like a mini Smartdrive motor doesn't it. I added a little rubber wheel to make it look like a direct drive car wheel, as thats how we were planning to use in the car. At the back there is a silver speed control knob, and the circuit board in underneath. Runs of 12v, and it still works. In the end we gave up on the F&P, the controller wasn't reliable enough. As a motor, the F&P makes a good alternator
