Anteror, After 35 plus years fishing in the magic Hinchinbrook Area NQ OZ have finally scored the holy grail of fishing. Caught the below yesterday, 1m plus Saltwater barramundi on a lure with light tackle. With sadness I tried unsuccessfully to revive her and release, she just gave too much in the battle. She probably weighed 20 plus kgs. ![]() I`m stoked but sad also, a magnificent fish!! We come from the land downunder. Vic |

Impressive size indeed and sorry to hear that you are not too happy with result. Did you end up eating it? I noticed that larger (older) ones are not as tasty as younger examples. Not sure if it applies to salt water Bara. George |

Yes even the barra is better eating smaller, I filleted her and she`s good eating. Used her backbones to bait crab pots, and got a good couple of feeds of mud crabs, but it is always a shame to see the big breeders die. One of the disadvantages of using light tackle, the fight is prolonged and they naturally give all, the barra change sex to female as they get large. They are a magnificent fish, spectacular fighter they jump and shake their head to dislodge the lure. Very small head and long thick fillets of white excellent eating flesh. Barra and mud crabs tis what life is about for the tropical fisherman. ![]() We come from the land downunder. Vic |

We are very fortunate, our rivers up here in NQ OZ are relatively pollution free, but that is a monster catfish. I can see I`ll have to organise a way of getting Anteror & Vasi a few bone free barramundi fillets delivered fresh to your doors. ![]() Hey!!! Gizmo, Vasi and those in the "silicon" part of the 4M, tis about time you tech folks worked out a way for us to send physical items by email. ![]() ![]() We come from the land downunder. Vic |
