Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

Built this small alt with my (11-yo) son using a saw blade, 4- mags and 4 solenoid coils. He seemed pretty happy with it and it tied in well with related discussions about our wind turbine. Thx to Oz for posting a schematic here (I found) right after we finished this project.

Hi KS,

A Good project for your boy.

My eldest, 13 and 16, have watched and helped me assemble a couple of 3.7m Hugh Piggotts.

They are always fascinated that when the 3 wires from the PMG are shorted out, joined together, they can hardly rotate the shaft.

(mind you once had a supposedly EE here, showed him, he went away baffled, haha!)

Anyways, I did the magnet waved over a wire and read with a sensitive voltmeter. And then a coil of wire etc, this physically showed my boys how a voltage/electricity is induced.

Yes, 'Oztules' is a very helpful Human being!!!!.
Everything is possible, just give me time.

3 HughP's 3.7m Wind T's (14 years). 5kW PV on 3 Trackers, (10 yrs). 21kW PV AC coupled SH GTI's. OzInverter created Grid. 1300ah 48v.
