Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

Hi all.  I finally gave in and purchased a Win11 machine.  Going pretty well but just recently started getting 'pop-ups' warning me of a Virus.  The popup is obviously commercial and mentions McAfee and Windows Edge, (which I did not install). Question: is this genuine 'push selling' or Malware? How do I stop it?
My years of insulated Win7 operations are missed already, but there is little option when the big boys remove support for their products, e.g. Dropbox, Sonos and the like.
Any input appreciated. Thanks.

I've had Windows 11 on my machine for a few months now and have not seen such a pop-up. I don't know if that information helps at all.

Thanks phil99.  I must improve my searching technique.
Yes, all good now.  Hope it stays that way.

I have a straight W11 machine that is free of annoyances.
I use and recommend the duckduckgo browser which kills that nonsense.

It also has a YouTube player which eliminates the irritating commercials.

This browser has recently added chatgpt 4.0 that works really well.

Thanks for the tip.  I use Opera and DuckDuckgo as the search engine on my PCs. Just tried the DDG Browser on an Android and looks good.  Ad blocking already improved.  I will give it whirl on Win11.
Thanks.  Anything to break free of Google.

I can recommend the Brave browser for getting rid of junk too. The default search engine is fine and Youtube is also cleaned up.
