Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

Hello all! I have a couple of PCs on my desk, one of which is a retro PC running Windows XP. Recently I was gifted an 8bitdo Commodore 64 retro keyboard:

https://www.8bitdo.com/retro-mechanical-keyboard-c64

And I’ve paired it with my retro PC. The layout is a bit unconventional, so to help me get used to it I thought I’d get a hold of Super Star Trek from David Ahls 101 Basic Computer Games and type that up into MMBasic.

I can do it using Notepad or just use the built in editor, but I’ve seen MMEdit in action and decided if I could  use that, it would be great. I downloaded MMEdit, and it said it had executables for XP, but when I attempt to run these executables, Windows complains that they aren’t valid Win32 executables.

Does someone have older versions of MMEdit I could possibly download? If not I’ll just go to plan B and use Notepad, but I thought I’d ask here first.

Many thanks,

Joseph

That's where I got the executables I was talking about. Those don’t work for my purpose, hence I came here and tried my luck 👍

I’ll see how I get on, but thanks for the reply 😎

Earlier versions of MMEdit do run on XP

I am not sure why the latest version fails. It is using the same 32bit compiler as the previous versions.

This is a working version but there have been a number of changes since.

Quote  Notepad++ is *the* programmers editor!

Discontinued support for Windows XP due to technical reasons. Notepad++ 7.9. 2 is the last version to run on Windows XP.

WE all have issues with support for older OS versions

I thought about that, but the fact that MMEdit works with MMBasic specifically is what drew me to it. I’m a programmer that tries to code too quickly and often overlooks small details, so MMEdit hopefully will help me be more aware 😎

I include the XP/portable ZIP here
