For German-speaking fans of the PicoMite series, I have included the manual in German, which was created using automatic translation. It is helpful for getting a quick overview. For the exact wording, please refer to the original. ;-)

That is amazing.  I don't know German but it looks good to me.  What is impressive is that it did not try to translate keywords like FOR, NEXT, PRINT, etc.  Let me know if you would like the source (in .docx) if that would help.

Would it be OK if I include it in the firmware distribution?

Thank you homa, good supplement for MMBasic and it should be included in the documentation somehow.

There is just one thing I want to add:

If it is included, we should think about how to communicate that there are, of course, some errors due to the automatich translation. E.g on page 252 if found the following example:

------ snip -----------
DO
‘ Hauptprogrammschleife
PRINT : PRINT „Geben Sie das Datum im Format TT.MMM.JJJJ
ein” PRINT „Erstes Datum”;
INPUT s
d1 = GetDays(s)
IF d1 = 0 THEN PRINT "Ungültiges Datum!" : CONTINUE DO

PRINT "Zweites Datum";
INPUT s
d2 = GetDays(s)
WENN d2 = 0 DANN DRUCKEN „Ungültiges Datum!“ : WEITER

PRINT "Die Differenz beträgt" ABS(d2 - d1) " Tage"
LOOP
-------------- snip ---------------

green ... OK, red ... translated!!

This seems to apply to most or all of the sample programs in the manual. Some Basic keywords are translated to german, some are left alone. I don't know if there is an easy way to tell the translator which parts of the text are to be left alone.

But the majority of the text is really easy and fun to read.

The next thing to do in the german speaking department here is to convey the existance of MMBasic in some of the electronics-bound german journals. I already thought about writing an article for "Funkamateur", introducing MMBasic as means to implement project ideas. Haven't done it yet as there where always some interesting changes and additions announced by Peter which I wanted to wait for. Maybe I could use an english article as basis if something exists and is not too outdated.

@homa: Looks really good - thanks for the effort!
@Gerald: I wrote an article for the German Make Magazine a few years ago (Make) - maybe they are interested in an update. I could contact the respective editor next year.

Best wishes and merry Christmas

Thomas,

yes, good idea. If possible, may I have the article as basis for an article in Funkamateur or is it prohibitively copyrighted if published in Make once? Anyway, I would use it as a basis, make neccessary updates and send it to the editor, with all relevant authors mentioned, just to see if they are interested.

Btw: I got knowledge that MMBasic existed also from a tiny note in Funkamateur a few years ago. Glad to have followed the link then.

@homa

Thank you, although I think I'm reasonably good at English, it's very useful.
Computers were actually the reason I improved my school English, as almost all good computer magazines in the early 80s were in English.
Have a wonderful Christmas, everyone!

Cheers

This article is certainly copyrighted but I think that most of the text - except maybe the box on BASIC - needs to be rewritten anyways to capture the developments of the past years. Also, the example I gave are probably too simple for Funkamateur.

Yes, that may be part of the firmware distribution. I'll be happy to try it out with the source document (.docx) and see if it works better. (Do you still have my email address?) We can then create a PDF from that.

Automatic translation has certainly come a long way in recent years.

It's great that it's helping so many people in the German-speaking community! :-)
