Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

Hi all.

Does anyone know of any software, that can scan various folders, looking for filenames with the same size?

I have downloaded LOTS of stuff, and I would like to "Trim the fat".
I see MANY duplicates, but it is almost impossible to find them all!

I need a software, that can search all filenames and their size, and show me any files that show up with the same filename and size - as these are more then likely duplicates that can be deleted, if you see what I am getting at.

Edit:
I've just tested CCleaner's duplicate file finder (free version) and it seems ok. You can save the list to a text file.

This is so dangerous, deleting duplicate files automatically.
You potentially loose all relation to a project.

I would suggest you copy project by project to a new drive. Once done, you swap drives, and keep the old one in a safe.

I found this software, with hints from the members on what to search for.

Software....

Seems legit, but is a pay-for software.  Prices are reasonable though.
I tried this out tonight, and it found 876 duplicates(200+ GB) in my YT downloaded videos.

I'd be happy enough to pay for a software that can do this, as this is something I have a major issue with(downloading YT videos), and so have many duplicates.

Just being able to sort them, and delete the duplicates would seem to justify the small asking price, and I am also then supporting development of the software etc.

before committing to a purchase, I checked available utilities on https://www.portableapps.com

I found...
Duplicate Files Finder, and
Wise Duplicate Finder

PortableApps.com is a reputable site hosting portable apps which don't need to be installed. The downloaded file unzips to wherever you decide - even a USB stick - and will run from there. To "uninstall", just delete the installation directory you created.

One of these utilities may be suitable.

In a command / powershell window you can sort by size and any identical should be obvious.

Er... or are the YT files all over the place? (pah - why!)

CCleaner will let you search specific directories and drives. Deletions are not automatic (I didn't check to see if this was an option as I don't think it's a good idea!), it lists the files and their paths on screen so you can choose which you want.
