As people on here will know, I have an aversion to the Arduino IDE; it brings on a deep sense of hate and loathing and is no longer allowed to pollute my PC. This has caused problems when attempting to do almost anything with the CYD (Cheap Yellow Display modules for those visiting from a different galaxy) as just about all the "help" assumes that you are using, and are reasonably skilled with, the Arduino stuff - even though it uses a ESP32, which bears no resemblance to any chip used by the Arduino. Annexe RDS to the rescue! I've finally been able to install it and am now playing with GUI buttons and stuff on it. For those interested, the CYD I'm using is the "ESP32-2432S028", currently available on AE for less than £10. Setup turned out to be relatively painless, unlike Annexe RDS which still confuses me. (For some obscure reason I expect PRINT to print something to somewhere where I can see it, but I think it sends to the default serial port, which isn't seen by the CYD or echoed to the Output page. I dunno...). At least these two CYDs are now saved from being disposed of as electronic waste. :) Mick Zilog Inside! nascom.info for Nascom & Gemini Preliminary MMBasic docs & my PCB designs |

use wlog instead of print. print only prints to the console port (serial over USB). 73 de OE1HGA, Gerald |

If you are interested I've got MMBasic running on a cheapish blackboard (Freenove esp32-s3). Should work on CYDs pretty well. |

Hi Mick, Not sure the S3 build will work on the CYD. The CYD uses a different chip. ![]() ![]() The S3 chip has a different core. ![]() Volhout PicomiteVGA PETSCII ROBOTS |

Thanks, both. :) The CYD I'm using only applies to the "ESP32-2432S028", not to the "ESP32-2432S028R" or other versions. It uses the minimal ESP32 module. Neither have anything like the capability of the S3. I've just found "ASCII Aquarium" for it. It's very pretty and makes a really cool little clock. lol Mick Zilog Inside! nascom.info for Nascom & Gemini Preliminary MMBasic docs & my PCB designs |

I have the aquarium running at the moment and sometimes you really wish you had access to a 3D printer! That's a lovely case indeed. The aquarium has a few configurable options, selected by a hidden menu system. I think I'm going to keep it and find some sort of desk space for it. :) Mick Zilog Inside! nascom.info for Nascom & Gemini Preliminary MMBasic docs & my PCB designs |

The CYD (at least any normal variants) don't have the ESP32-S3 or any other version, only the normal ESP32. This is in spite of what some of the advertisers claim. There are other yellow boards with displays but they aren't the CYD. Basically the CYD has a 2.8" display and only micro USB and a com port connector at the end. There is also a version that has an additional USB-C connector with them, but it has a slightly different display and is incompatible with some software. However, programs that are marked as compatible with CY2DUSB are ok. Annexe RDS can be used with either AFAIK as you set the display driver.
