Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

Volhout gave me this idea. Blame him. :)

It's a PC3x with all the USB stuff and the I2S audio stripped out. The single USB socket is brought out to the rear panel in the picture and is used for firmware loading and updates. It might be better to use a vertical socket mounted on the PCB as it's got no supply normally. The power switch is a changeover and takes the 5V feed from either that or from the CP2102, they can't both be connected at the same time. A feed from the programming USB lights the red LED, the green one is from a jumper like the PC3.

If I've got everything right it should be recognised as a genuine PC3, it's just that there are some bits (USB and I2S) that don't work and there's no GPIO. You do get PSRAM if you order the module with it or add your own.

The case is from AliExpress.. It's 120x80x40mm and is available from several sellers.

I've changed my mind on the USB. It should be USB-A and mounted on the rear panel. Useful for loading games from USB sticks. You'll need a USB A-A lead for the firmware though unless the socket is duplicated as something else internally.

All a bit pointless if you can get a PC3, of course. :)  I think the form factor is appealing though, especially if you stand it on it's right-hand side, with the HDMI and power button at the bottom. 80mm high x 40mm wide on a shelf..
