Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

Well have taken a shallow dive into the amazing world of DIY Wind Turbines. Must say the information on this site and others linked thru this site is amazing and I must congratulate all who have put it together so well.
Am certainly a newbie, experience so far is put up and have running one of the Chinese wonders which is performing OK. Did this for a friend and after reading the info reshaping their blades have taken them down and is work in progress. This friend is an ex pilot, glider instructor and has a wealth of info plus a very useful workshop so trust we can help each other.
Am at very beginings of getting some ideas together and reading site plans etc. Managed to get a freebie from local repairer of he says a 2005 F&P Ser,#/EYL629368. Windings measure .07 with my Vernier which does not seem to fit with numbering here? It does look like the pictures here of .08. So what is it and also what to do with the IC stuck on to of it. Electronics is not my thing so stepson (ex Telecom) will take care of that.
The other pic of shaft mount into 85mm ID SHS. Has anyone tried this or would the load on shaft be to great with blade weight etc. When inserted could be backfilled with Sikaflex or similar.

G'day Reverend,
Welcome to the Forum. Looks like you've already made a start on a new project.
It looks like an 80 series in the pic.
I think your mounting will be OK provided your connection to adjoining parts has the loading spread out over a fair area. Web any small localised load carrying joins due to the thin wall section. Good idea keeping the weight down as much as is practical. I've used Sikaflex myself for the same as on your unit with no problems. It's great.

Good luck with the project. Keep us informed of the progress?
was working fine... til the smoke got out.

Hi Peter,

I also got strange wire measurements. Mine fluctuated between 0.65mm and 0.75mm, depending where i measured it, but I was assured by everyone that it was an 80 series. the more i play with it, the more obvious that seems too.

Good luck on your project

Well have some progress Pics show a pretty quick setup to learn a few things. Mainly blade size and if F&P works, and it does. Even got a good glow in all the bulbs hooked up. Have not rewired stator yet. Is it possible to setup x3 10amp Bridge Rectifiers 150V to test the output of unchanged rotor?
So far have made blades from nice 1100mm piece of Poly found down in the mangroves while crabbing, put the turbine head together with bits and pieces of front end of Rodeo 4WD and of course side of F&P for vane.
This will eventually get more serious we hope. Yesterday picked up for a case of beer some excellent 2" heavey duty pipe and lots of attached fittings. This from an Ergon contractor. Should make up a 7m+ mast. So am happy about that. Still looking for some larger 250mm-300mm poly to make some wider blades up to 1200mm long.
Have got some very good revs from these first blades and even seem to get better when I taped the offcut pieces back on to the blades And even started much better under a load in light 10km winds. Where we are we get pretty consistent SE winds off the ocean so am quite sure we will see a good result soon.
Thanks for your comments.
Peter
