I've been researching and thinking about this project for about 3 years now, but never had a real opportunity to get stuck in as we are renting, thus can't install anything on the house.

Now my Aunt has purchased some land in the country and asked me to help her make it habitable and as eco-friendly as possible.

My question is - is it possible to use a ventilator as a generator? I'm ready to use a F&P smartdrive motor as a generator and am comfortable with re-wiring it and soldering the wires: no issue there. My challenge is getting the wind to power it.

We can't afford to build a windmill tower, but I thought sticking a ventilator on the roof and putting the smartdrive inside it would charge a couple of 12v batteries - enough to power some LED lights for a couple of hours in the evening.

Can anyone see a problem with this setup? I guess an initial concern would be the speed - it's fine for extracting hot air but is it enough to turn the motor?

Thanks...

This came up a couple of years ago, same sort of idea. Sorry mate but the power available from one of these vents is so small its not worth harnessing. I'll see if I can find the other post.

It shows your thinking though
