My suggestion is to take a small pm generator off a moped/scooter. You might need some sort of voltage regulation. But if you use the power generated for heat, (run it through some bulbs) you might be ok with just the gen? cheers, J |

Possibly best bet is to go a standard 100series F&p, as these "put out" at really low revs. Generaly only do about 1-2 amps at low wind speeds, But if you can get it to turn all day ... The highest I saw on mine was 4-6 amps at higher revs (HAWT), but cut in at 12 volt, really early. You will have to decogg it for a VAWT. F&P refers to Fisher and Paykel who are makers of home applicances including washing machines, initially in New Zealand their products are also sold in Australia and the USA. The model of washing machine is any "Smart Drive" of which there are a few variations though all will do the job as a low speed alternator the 100 series may be best. The part you want is of course the motor which is in the form of a rather large pancake shaped stepper motor. These machines have been on the market long enough that the machines are appearing on the rubbish piles. Everything you need to know about the various models, mounting the motor, modifying for approriate voltage (easy) etc is available somewhere on this site though you may have to look around a bit. |
