Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

I was just looking at some brushless motors i could use as a generator and i see thear are a lot of rc brushless motors going for a very low price
do you think this would make much power
Rotational Speed 1400 RPM/V
Continuous Current 16A
Max. Current 18A
Input Voltage 6 - 14V
Max. Efficiency 98%
No Load Current 0.5A
Internal Resistance 35m
Motor Dimensions (Diameter x Length) 26.9mm x 28.9mm
Shaft Dimensions (Diameter x Length) 2.96mm x 15mm
im hoping for around 500ma at 12v or more

Hi sxyrx7,
presumably a mazda RX7 owner?
The motors should work as a windmill generator. These small outrunner motors are high torque, relatively low rpm. They are primarily designed to swing a large propellor, without a gearbox in model aircraft.
I have a ModelMotors AXi 2828/10 that produces 0.5VAC at 60RPM. The motors are quite coggy when slowly rotated by hand. This will affect startup performance as a windmill.
You would best assess before purchase.
The unit you mention above would not be suitable.
Gordon.

Gordon is correct; this motor is unsuitable. You can easily judge this for other motors yourself too:
Windturbines need *slow* motors/generators. The particular motor you've shown runs at 1400 RPM/V, meaning at 12V it would run at ~17.000 RPM. To generate 12V it would need to turn at around 17.000 RPM too. This is much too fast for a direct-drive windgenerator.
For comparison, my 3hp motorconversion runs at 7 RPM/V, so it'd generate 12V at ~100 RPM. The 500W motorconversion 'blue boy' runs at 250RPM for 12V, so about 20 RPM/V.Edited by Dinges 2008-08-25

Is thear a good brushless motor that could be used at a wind generator
i know the f&p is one of the best but they are too big for what i want and require too much work to setup

Weellll...... just about any stepper motor of any size has potential and they are brushless.
How big do you have in mind, 500ma at 12V? Where are you in Godzone?
