i want to build a Savonius type gen with a F&P alternator.. I'm in an area that gets about 4.8M/s wind on average.. what kind of winding mods should i use? (i want to use a 42 pole F&P)

the Savonius will be made from 3 X 20 ltr cooking oil drums stacked so not a huge rotor..

could i run it direct drive?Edited by absinthe 2008-09-08

Just out of interest,

How many 1MW windmills are around your intended location?

This would be a very good wind site, based on this average windspeed.

Gordon.
