Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

Hi Guys.

As some of you have noticed, the forum was down for a few hours this morning (Oz time). There was a major power blackout in the region and the ISP ( http://www.orion-online.com.au/ ) had to shut down the servers. All back to normal for now.

The forums have been very busy, and I feel bad that I dont have the time to contribute as much as I feel I should. There have been some facinating discussions lately, especially with the caps on F&P's, well done to those who have done the hard work.

My question is, is there anything I can do to improve the forum? I appreciate the contributions of all members, and any suggestions on how I can make the forum easier to use would certainly be looked into.

Glenn

This is one of the best forums around, IMHO!
I do like the hotlists that some other forums have. It makes it easier to get the info I use most without searching. So, since you asked, that is what I would humbly request, if it's not too much trouble.
And thank you very much for a great forum!

Dare I say it,
But I do like the way scoop gives the user info with all their posts and stories (yes I know there is a search function....but since you asked.

But it is very user friendly as it is. A credit to you Glen.

PS.
A nice touch would also be.. if Dinges logs in.... flip his screen upside down so he can see it in southern hemisphere mode..... and then perhaps get his computer to run around the room and kick and scuff up his projects a bit... they are just to to neat. Bill Gates already thought of this problem occuring in anti-podean online interaction(who's the anti one - you or I?), which is why he incorporated a nifty function in Windows-XP: <CTRL><ALT><CURSOR UP/DOWN/LEFT/RIGHT> (though, being a Linux user it probably won't work for you).

Glenn, there's very little to complain about this board. The only thing missing is someone serving tea with a biscuit when reading it. If you could somehow arrange for that...

I very much like the edit-function of one's own posts, to weed out spelling errors or brain malfunctions; it helps to make threads less cluttered by correction replies.

Edit: wait, there's one thing that may be handy... something like a directory where all a user's uploaded pictures are displayed. So that if you want to use a picture you uploaded sometime before again in another post/thread, it's easy to refind. I suppose it relates to Oztules' remark about finding a user's stories/replies/pictures.... Edited by Dinges 2008-09-27

I'll second that nomination. Access to a user directory
of files like scoop does would be nice.
It should work ...in theory

And a quote icon like the bold and underline ones.. I never remember the quote format and so don't use it (and I'm lazy and tend to be thinking of what to write rather than going for the forum codes)

G'day Glenn,
I like the forum's format. In particular where threads with replies are placed on top. Otherwise you do need a hotlist to keep track but still those with hotlist alone miss a lot of comments added after the good but not hotlist topics are rapidly pushed off the page.

My other favourite is the search feature that accepts multiple words. Forums with a one word search are next to useless especially when the defining word is something like Voltage or Furling. Multiple word search allows so much more for beginner and old hand alike.

I follow several other forums and this is by far the best to use.

So no suggestions from me, but please keep up the good work of holding it together. I can imagine the work that goes on all totally unnoticed. Sad to say that's the quirk. People only know of the work when it's not done and things turn to sh*t.

Thanks for the great forum.
was working fine... til the smoke got out.

Thanks for the feedback guys.

I'll add the users stories/files thingy page, and the Quote button is a good idea too. Give me a week or two.

I've been head down bum up into some software development lately, building my empire as it were. So far I have 4 clients using my system with another 2 starting in a couple of weeks. Its all word of mouth so far. Each client pays a lease fee, once I get over 20 clients I can call it my full time job, after that its a growing business. Looks very promising, I'm getting good feedback, but it also means I need to spend the next year working my butt off to keep up with the softwares "evolution". There is a light at the end of the tunnel, I can see it.

So Bruce, my moving house is on hold for the next year at least. There is a lot of money in this town, big mining businesses happy to pay whatever it takes to get a good job tracking system in place, so I would be crazy to leave just now. "Nell" is going great, she's a smart dog even if she's a ratbag occasionally. Could be a better guard dog though, yesterday a goanna ate my last chicken, bugger, no more eggs for breakfast.

Glenn,

Great forum as it is more F&P biased compared to www.fieldlines.com, which is more home-built alternator biased. So it has more of an Aussie/Kiwi flavour, while the other one spells it "flavor".

We all hope you are going to get the extra 16 clients so you can afford to buy more chickens for the goanna!

Thanks for all your efforts!
