Bl**dy hell, Mark... I blinked a few times when I saw the picture. It's *big*. Next time you take a picture of it, have someone standing near the VAWT as reference for size; it's hard to see just how big it exactly is ![]() Just a few remarks. I think I'd add some more support for the blades near the tips, either from tip-to-tip of the next blade, or to the shaft. And if the vertical shaft that connects the blade to the generator has to take the full sideways (lateral) force/thrust of the wind, then it looks too thin. But if you add your bearings on that shaft, one just below the horizontal cross of the blades, and another just above the generator, it's probably fine. So whether the shaft is strong and stiff enough depends a bit on exactly how you will build it. Looking forward to updates of the project. And yes, now the rest of the windturbine is taking shape the magnet rotor doesn't seem so large anymore... ![]() |

Thanks Oz One can carve vawt blades with a chainsaw also ![]() Peter It's 8ftx8ft.The support arms will be 1inx1/8th square stock attached in a crisscross pattern on top of the rotor and linking each blade on the bottom. Not done with that yet. I'll go into more detail on the tower, shaft and bearings abit later. Need my coffee to soak in ![]() |
