I have the 1mm (large wire) stator in my basement and I am thinking about splicing some magnet wire to each coil and increasing the number of turns. Has anyone done this?

Hi Imsmoth

Personally I never reconnect I rip all windings off and rewind to the turns per coil I want. This in my case where I am mostly on Hydro at up to 1200rpm is only 7 turns /coil. Note `100sp is 44turns /2 *7 /14 = 11 turns.
a 80sp if memory is correct is about 100turns/coil existing.
100/2*7/14 =25 not a hard job while watching tv etc. Nice if you have patience to get neat but there is plenty room I have done some in a hurry that are rough but work ok. Need to be fairly tight tho to stop movement.Advantages are no joins , no need to stick to turns governed by existing winding, get heaps of wire left over. I use the 1mm wire up to about 10A if more I double up as I wind.

ps The above is refering to star connections I avoid delta configerations to save circulating currents.Edited by herbnz 2008-10-23
