Well its Christmas, 2008, already! Cant say its been a good year locally, floods in my home town ( 600mm in one day, thats 23 inches of rain in one storm! ), mud slides at home, goanna ate my chickens! Globally we've had a economic downturn, and more terrorists attacks in the region. But the way I see it, if your reading this message, then you've managed to stay out of harms way for another year, still kicking and breathing, and thats a good thing. The windmill projects have come a long way in the last year. Quad stators, chain saw made blades, cap tuning, twisted poles, etc, etc. All possible with the input from everyone who has contributed to the forum. Well done guys. The web site traffic has grown by about 50% in the last year. And as some of you have noticed the site has been off line or slow a fair bit lately. Power failures and ADSL outages are taking their toll, through no fault of the business thats hosting the site ( Gavin, an old friend who runs an ISP from home ). So its time to move the entire thebackshed site to a professional hosting service, Webcentral. Webcentral have huge internet bandwidth, meaning the site will load much faster for everyone with much less downtime. It will take me a few weeks to transfer everything over ( The whole site is about 400M ) and get all the scripts and forum working correctly. At some time in the next week or so I'll lock the forum while the DNS is changed. This will take a couple of days, no postings will be lost, fingers crossed! So have a great Christmas break and happy new year. Glenn The best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago, the second best time is right now. JAQ |

Great stuff Glenn. You truly do an excellent behind the scenes job for us mouse pushing windmillers. I agree, it has been an adventurous year for the site and this includes the forum. Perhaps you'll have a less unwelcome excitement in 2009, be able to spend more time on those 'Glenn Projects' and put the feet up a few more times. So seasons greetings back at ya. Will look forward to the new host in the near future. was working fine... til the smoke got out. Cheers Gill _Cairns, FNQ |

During the year Gordon visited and I've been over to Phill's place a few times. You are all welcome to visit if you are down this way .. just give us a call on 07 33453513. As a newcomer to this site I must congratulate you Glenn on a really important often under-recognized role that you play. Your efforts have resulted in this site being a great success. Without it, my knowledge and understanding of the complexity of RE would have been much, much less. It is through the forum that I have met a fine group of willing, helpful people. All of this augurs well for the future of people doing their bit for the environment. I fondly remember your wisdom and guidance when I was just beginning and made a posting here. Your support then was very very much appreciated and most encouraging. Your efforts and time spent in keeping this going are very valuable indeed, and some people possibly take it for granted. However I see your role as that of a wise leader, allowing all of us to interact and learn from each other. I guess that it is not dissimilar to the role of Father Christmas. A Merry Christmas to you and your reindeers, and may Santa keep on coming for many years into the future! Bolty |

Santa bought 4" of rain ..... so all is good. The wind powered EV has clocked up near a hundred kilometers of paddock bashing so far... it is still pig ugly, but there is a chance that a Suzuki Mightyboy may be in the wings soon... smaller and lighter and with windows. The 4m chainsaw mill is still working perfectly and has been a good test bed and learning device. The AWP is still spinning well and both have survived 3 days of battering winds that left trees down, roofs torn off and sheds spirited away across paddocks and roads. (the 4" of rain didn't come without cost). All things considered, just another great year on the Island. Happy holidays to all, thanks to Glen for making the site available to all the people around the world. ........oztules Ps. The chainsaw thing is still on Hugh's site as well as Nialls effort. I wonder if this means that Hugh is going to give it a go as well ![]() Village idiot...or... just another hack out of his depth |
