Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

Would this be something woth looking into ?
The magnets are already inside the coils and you could add as many coils as you can fit. I know I could make the mechanics work but would the coils be more efficient than the normal sweeping across magnet faces?

Kill joy!
I reckon friction between the zig-zag guide (sinusoidal would be better) and the many rollers would gobble up too much power.

Gary although the mechanical arrangement is rather novel I am afraid it is a poor design for a generator.
Design of a permanent magnet generator is all about arranging a magnetic field so that the lines of flux are cut by the conductors of the moving coil. So (I think) you want the lines of flux to cross the conductors as near as possible to right angles and for the flux to be as near as possible passing through a magnetic permeable material such as soft iron and passing through air as little as possible.

Whether there are moving coils or moving magnets (or both moving in OPPOSITE direction), does not matter.
As long as there is a right angle movement between the coil end (NOT the sides or the inside!)and the flux , the faster the better.
If I remember correctly, air conducts magnetic flux about 10,000 times worse than soft iron so keep the air gap to the absolute practical minimum.
