The Different windmill,, The text was copy and paste from MS notepad. I'm not a whiz at Typing, I saw no reason to type it twice Though the format was not to my liking it was a little difficult to find my way around on a new site. Interested persons can view a drawing at http://www.instructables.com/community Green/Santa ana. Here's a link. http://www.instructables.com/community/Santa_Ana_Wind_Engine / I think there would be too many losses through friction for it to work for wind power, though it should be ok for hydro. Why not replace the belt loop with a wheel, much less loss and less moving parts. The best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago, the second best time is right now. JAQ |

Yes, I too fear too much friction to be viable as a wind machine. Besides, this is a drag machine and has none of the power generating lift that a good aerofoil can produce. |

Reminds me of this for Tidal generation. http://www.atlantisresourcescorporation.com/ Its being trialled at San Remo on Phillip Island here in Victoria Aust. For wind not sure? Anthony. Thank you for a polite message I found the link to be interesting, I hadn't known of this. I am aware that this machine would have operational friction and although the drawing is a basic concept it is not a blueprint, there are ways to improve the rolling efficiency of the belt such as fabric only with rubber faced rollers. also the push plates should be equipped with caster wheels or similar to lawn mower rubber tires. Used in a track to fold the plates and also to carry the plate on the return. this is a later Drawing of this thing.Note; I am not trying to sell this I'm not making parts for it to sell. Please note the tilt up angle for operation and realize that I have down rated the output due to Wind shaded plate area. a slight side angle to wind direction would allow full plate area exposure and would also increase the belt speed. Pardon the YAK YAK ![]() Time has proven that I am blind to the Obvious, some of the above may be True? |

Hi greenbelt, Anyony can get large numbers when quoting high wind speeds. My 2m dia windmill AxFx, has raw wind energy rating of around 30hp at a 50mph windspeed. The windenergy available is only that calculated at a particular windspeed and a particular wind capture area. I rate my windmill at 450W max, due to mill preservation constraints. Your design would sound like a factory with all the mechanical components etc. Gordon. become more energy aware |
