Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

What i meant to ask is if i remove the old engine off my generator is it then possible to rig it to a windmill
or are there horsepower issues with that?If your not living on the edge your taking up to much space!

Hi , I'm not an expert on windmill's but I do know some Basic about electrical systems, It would seem a good Idea
off the top of your head, but when you see the obsticles it would cost you way more than to buy what you need. Here are my thoughts on this.
I don't know if your country uses 50 or 60 Hertz AC on the grid but it doesn't matter, your emergency generator must run at either 3000 or 3600 rpm. now here is the problem, if the alternator is turning at a slower speed the voltage will be low and because there are several turns of wire in the coils the resistance is greater and this results in low current. a gear box to rev up the alternator would be expensive and add more drag. I personally would not do it. If you are just experimenting , Nothing lost and you will learn by doing. What ever you do, Best of results for your effort.

David; I must have also been in a hurry I failed to notice your place in the world. Also I failed to Include the
possibility that you may have a 4 pole alternator. If this is the case then 60 hertz output requires an armature speed
of 1800 rpm. at windmill speed you will still need a gearbox to speed it up. Some people use a magneto style alternator with a large radius, with the coils mounted on the perimeter the number of flux lines cut per second is
much higher , this allows a lower RPM while at the same
time achieving the voltage required to charge batteries.
