I have been looking around on Ebay and have seen a lot of servo motors. Is there any one motor that is really suited for wind power or is it just a matter of what i want to build? ![]() If your not living on the edge your taking up to much space! |

Hi David Its depends on the operating voltage and how many $ they want for it. The higher the voltage the better, a servo that runs at 100 volts or more would be fine. The bigger ( higher watt or amp rating ) the better to, again depending on price. Servos come as either DC or AC. Either will work, but AC is better if you can get it. DC means brushes, and these will wear out. AC types are usually 3 phase, good. Glenn The best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago, the second best time is right now. JAQ |

Hey David I am new here but not new to wind power. so this will be my first post on this Website. Glen is correct higher voltage is better, But also important is the rated RPM so high voltage low rpm and high amp rating is good. For example A 110 volt motor rated at 3500 rpm is better than a 110 volt motor rated at say 4600 rpm 3500/110 =31.81 this means 31 rpm per volt so achieve say 12.5 volts you would need to spin your motor at 397 rpm so this example motor would not be a good motor to use as a direct drive. A good motor for a small turbine say 120 watts would be something like this 50 vdc at 900 rpm 12 amp 900/50=18 one volt per. 18rpm 18* 12.5=225 rpm a reasonable rpm for a 6 foot turbine I hope this makes scene. I hope i did all my math correct. Luckeydog ![]() wind gens are so much funner to watch than solar panels http://www.coloradowindpower.com |
