G'day. I've read a whole lot of different ways to do this and have a few questions. My hub will look something like this. I've read that it's possible to weld the hub up against the 205 bearing, do you need a TIG welder for this? Because the shaft looks stainless to me... Also, anyone ever had a "spline receiver" machined in the center of a hub? How much did it cost? It looks like the easiest way for me will be to use those plastic collar things with the three bolt holes that have can receive the spline, and bolt them either side of the hub. Anyone done this? Hi Benjamin Yes the shaft is stainless, but you can weld to stainless with a mig or stick welder. Someone else on the forum might have some advise on best practice to avoid cracking or the best wire/rods to use. A Toyota tailshaft will fit the F&P spline, are you near a motor wreakers? If so take your F&P shaft and see if you can dig up a Toyota 4cyl drive shaft, or maybe a clutch plate. Hi Benjamin...just on the welding issue, you can buy stainless steel welding rods to use with a stick welder...they're so clean and easy to use and give a great finish...if they were a little cheaper I'd use nothing else...they make a bad welder (like me) look good :) ...Cheers, Russell |
