Has anyone tried to reuse the wire out of an induction motor with any luck or are the little nicks and scratches just to bad for current to flow?

If your not living on the edge your taking up to much space!

If you are careful and patient in unwinding one, you should have no problem reusing the wire. I avoid the ones that are varnished, but have found, the older the motor...the easier the varnish disintegrates when pulling wire out.
Patience and control is very much needed here

That is how I have gotten most of the wire for the mills I am trying to learn to build. Be careful and wear thick gloves when you wind the wire up on reels. I am still pulling slivers of varnish from my hands after several weeks. But I get alot of gas generators alternators free. It cost less to buy new than replacing bad engines. You will get several different gauges. just use a wire gauge chart and mark you reels. I learn from a rewinder about using different guages by doubling up wires of compatable guages. find a rewind shop with a older owner and talk to him. If he sees your interested in learning he will teach you and give you a tour of his shop and show you how they do their magic. the best hobbies start small and take long time to complete but the satisfaction is the best reward.
