hi guitarbaby

what kind of rectifier ,fuse are you using ? did it come with the generator ...single or three phase ?

if its a standard bridge type rectifier make sure its plus goes to plus on the batt and its negative goes to negative on the batt ,these should be clearly marked on the rectifier... (otherwise it,d could definately short )

if the rectifier is working ok ,the battery shouldnt even know its there

without knowing much about the actual setup (pics), I would suggest hooking the batteries up without rectifier and see if fuse shorts...should not short. Check continuity direction of your rectifier to see if any hidden internal problem before reconnecting it to batteries (as you may have already buggered it up) and then wire correctly batteries to rectifier and see what happens. If fuse shorts, get another rectifier or make your own out of some diodes...basic methodology of fault finding may help...it's often the simple things that get me

I have just looked at the specs for the presto generators. The output figures are for open circuit voltage and short circuit current for a particular rpm. This is very misleading, as they quote the power output as the product of these results. This can never be.

These units seem to have internal rectifiers or external, depending on the model. It is just a matter of connecting - to battery - and + to battery +, after the rectifiers, with the fuse in somewhere between.

You need to post a photo, etc, to show what you have done.
