Hello to all you fellow wind mill builders and enthusiast. My name is Jim I live 30 miles south west of Chicago Illinois and yes Chicago is in fact a very wind city. At the present time my system consist of PV, solar thermo and an Air X. This forum is very informative lots of good stuff. (love the new blades that Gixmo just received) I am now starting to design and build my mill and would like to get my hands on a couple of F&P motors. Unlike you guys down under here in Chicago land we do not have F&P motors for easy access. I am aware of EconInnovation NZ. Just wondering if any one of you guys would be willing to sell a spare F&P to a fellow mill builder in the States. Jim JamesRobin@Comcast.net Jim |

Welcome Jim, Its going to be cheaper to purchase the motor here in the states new than ship them from Aus. there is a place in Ohio that manufactures them. Good luck on your mill! If your not living on the edge your taking up to much space! |

Randy at Randy's Workshop has a number of F&P rotor/stator/shafts. He is in The US. Here is the link http://www.watchtv.net/~rburmeister/products.html Tell him Jonathan sent you. Jonathan |

DaVid and imsmooth thanks for your quick responses it's nice to know that there are people that wish to help out. There's not a whole bunch of folks around here that are into building there own mills so helping others that do is awesome. imsmooth I read the message you posted about using a neo magnet rotor with your F&P cog free, rewound stator that produced 1200 watts with very little noise? This was the idea I was hoping to try on my mill. It sounds like it worked for you so that is what I will be striving for do you have any suggestions for me? Jim |

First, I would read my photo journal here and look at what I did with my rotor. If you are interested, let me know and I can find out how much they cost. You can pay me and I will have the company that I designed them with ship them directly to you. The prices change, but they are close to $1.5-$2/magnet and you will need 56. I got 60 in case I broke some. You also have to figure in the shipping from China which is $85-$100. They worked very well and there was no warpage of the rotor from the magnetic forces. I cast the rotor with fiberglass resin and coated that with epoxy paint. If I had to do it over I would have just used the epoxy paint. The rotor/stator combination that I used produced 1200W near 500 rpm. You can look at my power graphs to see the exact numbers. |

Hello Jonathan I took your advice and viewed your photos wow I am really impressed very nice work the photos are very clear. I now have to go back and read all your wording. Your idea of using the rotating contact was a very nice idea in fact my neighbor has one in his shop that I think I can get my hands on. (My neighbor fly's a Skystream 3.7) I can't tell you how much time your research will save me? I do have a 13" South bend heavy 10 lathe, band saw, welder etc in my shop so I should be able to build a mill that will be productive. Yes I am interested in purchasing the magnets and moving forward with my mill. I was thinking of following Hugh Piggott design for the frame structure tail etc, and using an auto type brake drum spindle assembly for the neo rotor. If you wish you can contact me at my e mail address JamesRobin@Comcast.net Thanks much. Jim Jim |

JimBo, I think I pass your turbine taking a shortcut through your neighborhood near I355 and Ogden Ave. Every day I look up to see if your spinning and almost crash my car. Lar. |

I thought a skystream 3.7 on a 19m pole was out there. Is this a grid connected unit? Is the owner satisfied with performance? Has there been any problems with the unit? How long has it been flying? Here in OZ there have been some electronic technical problems. Hopefully v2.02 will solve these. Curved blades and a downwind design certainly stand out at 75'. Gordon. become more energy aware |

Gordon At first my neighbor bought a Chinese 2Kw, 11 foot sweep, wood blade, slip rings, non grid tie mill that came with a control box and dump load heating element. He used a Windyboy 2Kw grid tie inverter. The mill made more noise then we cared for and after a short time the inverter it seems did not like the arrangement and decided to burn out a few coils etc. Don't know why he went the Chinese route. It just so happens our other neighbor has a nice truck crane with an 100 foot boom so we were at it again. The Chinese mill came down and the Skystream went up. It's been flying for about two months now and all is well. The mill is very quiet almost surprising quiet, very smooth with very little noticeable vibration. The inverter is built in so it is grid tied. We have had some serious winds here and the over speed protection seems to work very well. My neighbor isn't really the technical type so he really hasn't kept records with KWH production. He did not purchase the wireless software for PC connection. All in all I really like it. Damm thing spins all the time I can see it from my living window my girl friend say's I am suffering from turbine envy. Yes his KWH meter runs in reverse most of the time. All this works along side his 2KW BP PV system all grid tied. Jim |
