Been off the site for a while - been doing other things involving houses and flats. But finally got myself a couple of treadmill motors (GMD 118)to use as generators, so will try and get my pvc poo-pipe blades made this weekend. Then will probably mount the motor to box section and mount motor with strapping and weld a socket to the bottom and mount to a scaffolding pipe. Should I use a bearing for this or make use of a washer and a shed load of grease? Also - going to put the wires down the scaffolding pole - as the turbine spins to catch the wind, how do I stop this furling up the wire at the bottom where it goes to the charge controller? Thanks for the help. |

Hi Marcus I just use a greased up pipe over pipe as my yaw bearings. It is starting to wear, mayme lost 0.5mm of material on the mast so far in 4 years. I generally take the thing down every years and put more grease into the join. To stop the wires getting tangled I have a quick connect connector at the mast bottom so I can unplug the power cable and un-wind it a few times. Depending on the season, this could be once a month or once every couple of days. Glenn The best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago, the second best time is right now. JAQ |
