Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

I now have all 96 magnets for my rotors. 48 for each face. 12 groups of 4 mags. alternating nn ss nn on each rotor. 21 gauge wire 375 turns. laminated cores for coils.
I'll be assb. the rotors this weekend if the honeydo list is do . I have one question for CraziestOzzy.

when you said that in the simm you off set the mags. what did you mean by this? we lost the posts. I want to make sure before I secure the mags to the rotors.

did you mean:

nn ss nn ss
nn ss nn ss

or did you mean:

nn ss nn ss nn
ss nn ss nn ss

or did you mean:

nn ss nn ss nn
-ss-nn-ss-nn-ss:

sorry I just don't what to screaw this up. I would like to do a complete diary on this when I finish so that others who are just thinking about this can see you can do something with very very little money and a good bit of free time to make a genny functional.
I am going to show all have help me get the warm thanks you all deserve.

things may have too wait for a week or two. have had rain for the 5 out of 6 days. flood warnings. I now have a 6 foot deep river between my house and my shop. if it stops raining friday i may be able to get out there saturday. but mor rain sunday thru ?

I don't know the detail, but how are you going to make sure it won't cog with the laminated cores?
If at first you don't succeed, try again.

CraziestOzzy did a sim on femm for me. he was of great assitance to me in showing the best configuration and best application to get the most out of my ceramic magnets that where salvaged from automotive starters. It's a experiment.

I'm afraid I share Janne's doubts on cogging.

Could you or CraziestOzzy tell us how this was done using FEMM? I'd be very interested in learning how to do this too. I know it is possible to simulate for cogging and voltage (and waveshape) in FEMM, but it isn't exactly straightforward to do.

If CraziestOzzy did optimize your alternator design using FEMM, he or you would do the rest of us a big favour by showing how this was done.

Peter.

I just loaded the program on my computer this week. I'm just learning about it my self. I knowledge is primaraly on comunication uplinkes and downlinkes. so it's a new learning curve. Craziestozzy has been of the best influance on my learning about homegrown energy. weather this alternator works or not I will be very greatful for all the input he has given me and hope that he will be willing to assist me with other fundamental problems i may encounter with my other pursuits of alternative energy in hte future.
