My insurance company told me they will not insure my windmill from any damages it may have from any peril. Has anyone had a similar issue? If your not living on the edge your taking up to much space! |

I'd be surprised if ANY insurance company would have any interest in home RE stuff. I'm not even sure how you would go with covering your inverters, batteries etc in an off grid home. Most just look at you like a stunned mullet if the item is not listed in their brochure as a building, car or boat. sPuDd.. It should work ...in theory |

Hi sPuDd, my agent told me if it was a commercially made genny and I had it inspected and approved they would insure it. But I have a feeling if it was a commercial machine they would have told me something differant. If your not living on the edge your taking up to much space! |

I've just changed insurance company for my house and contents, and now have my batteries, panels and inverter covered with no problems at all. I didn't mention the Chinese WTGs though, but I figure if they fail I'll cover the repair/replacement cost myself... since they cost less than the excess. I have been with Elders Insurance for years. I must say, they have been the friendliest, most reasonable bunch I've ever had the good fortune to deal with. (Unlike elders real estate who are the exat opposite!) My turbine was wiped out in a storm earlier this year. A lump of tree seems to have gone through it resulting in a blade crash and catastrophic failure. Their assessor was here next day and basically told me to replace the whole thing (tower included). They even chased me up after a few weeks because they hadn't had a bill for the replacement yet. Not all insurance companies are made equal! |
