Hi Daggit

What sort of power/amps are you expecting?

I do not understand what you are trying to do? If the DC motor is rated to work at the battery voltage you just connect it directly.

I don't know what kind of power I'll get for sure. I know it wont be over 40 amps from my treadmill motor (hoping maybe 6-10 amps) but I might add another smaller windmill. I KNOW it wont make 100 volts.

If you hook it up to the battery directly the voltage could flow backwards to the spinning the dc motor right?

A treadmill motor would only supply a few amps, maybe 10 amps at the most, so you can use a cheap diode. Diodes can be conneced in parallel, to increase the total current handling capacity.

A 1N5404 is rated at 3 amps, 400 volts, and worth about 25 cents. 4 connected in parallel will give 12 amps at 400 volts. For the price, grap a couple extra and add them to the circuit, just to be safe.

Hi Daggit

Davef's right, without the diode, the motor, used as a generator, will act like a motor. When there isnt enough wind to charge the battery, the battery will drain into the motor and spin the blades.

by the way the one I have a link posted to would work right? Those little bitty ones seem so small to put in the power line. Is there I nice looking way to wire those?
