I have just picked up a 1.5kw 3 phase motor cheap.
6 pole so i think that means 960 rpm. I was thinking at hooking it up to 48V or should i go higher ?
Thanks.
Cameron.
When i say picked up i mean i have bought it,
I actually dont have it yet.

Hi Cameron,
The 1.5Kw (2hp) motor I converted was a 4 pole and although the best Ive seen is only about 20 amps out @ 24 volt, the cutin around 90 rpm makes for a decent small motor conversion. Yours being a 6 pole will mean working out the correct mag spacing and I found it was best to make a whole new rotor machined from solid bar.
By saying connect it to 48 volts ??? I do assume you mean for a 48 volt bank.
Cheers Bryan

thanks Bryan,
Yes i meant a 48v bank of batteries.
I suppose i should just hook it up at 24v and 48v and
see which is best.
Cameron.

The cut-in and most suitable voltage is usually something you can only approximate. It's dependent on how much room there is on the rotor, but in a 6-pole motor I bet there will be lots of space. There certainly is promise for a reasonable speed range at 48V, but you won't know for sure until you're done and test it.

Thanks Steven,
Thanks.
Cameron.
P.S might be scoring two 1.1kw 8 pole motors ! rpm is only 750 on them.
