Since I am waiting to see if I can launch my HAWT, I decided to throw together a VAWT to see if I can get anything out of it. I put it up yesterday, and as of now, no wind, no rotation.. I have no idea if she will spin at all.. I only got it up about 11 Feet and used temporary stakes. I want to see if the town yells and if it spins. Wadda u guys think? Will it spin? |

I think that vibrations may be a problem if it spins. Gordon. become more energy aware |

floodrod The problem won't blow is you are in thick jungle and the wind is blowing at the top the trees so need open space ![]() Dwyer the bushman can't find the axe |

Yeah I wouldn't expect too much from this one. Thats a lift type VAWT, a bit too small, and will need a LOT of wind to make any power. In your location a slow running VAWT like a savonius or a Lenz2 would be the go. If you could build a Sav' or Lenz 2 meters high by 2 meters diameter, you could get a few watts, better than nothing. Do you still have some of the plastic pipe? Can you cut it into lengths 1 to 2 meters long, split down the middle. ![]() It would be slow, but it will work and make a few watts with a unmodified 60 series stator. Yep, you guys are right.. We got some 15 MPH winds today and the mill won't even budge.. The whole contraption is blocked by the trees.. Gizmo- The current blades are made from 6" pvc. I have some 4" pvc, but no more 6".. It's a shame because I had them halved before I angled them to get lift.. I'm still trying to figure out how to launch the HAWT with my town permit requirements. I have enough property to get a hawt up 70 FT (well above the trees), but I can't keep the sucker far enough from my own house to meet ordinance requirements ![]() There is a guy in my town who has a 75 FT tower on a property 1/2 the size of mine and his don't meet the ordinances, but he has been in and out of courts and had his up before the ordinances were in effect (from what I understand). It's a shame towns make it so hard to launch a mill ![]() |
