Firstly hello to everyone in the forum.I'm new to this and a little electrically challenged but a master with a mig and really keen to get a generator up and running. My budget is tight and was wondering if anyone has had any experience with the Swea Grid Tie Inverters they are simply a plug in style inverter that plugs directly into your standard power point...no electrcian. Would appreciate any comments and does anyone live near Portland Vic area would be keen to see a F&P flying Thanks...Jason

jason-
my good friend does solar array installs. he is a licensed swea dealer, and apparently those plug in type inverters seem to be flying off the shelf. i don't know if they are good or not, but i do know the demand for them is very high!

are you talking portland, or?

if so, i may be able to get you a deal on the inverter. i'll check with my buddy and see what kind of price he can swing.

maybe we could meet too, i could show you my progress on my mill.

beware. it's addicting!

best of luck!

my buddy is honestly kind of an idiot. he installs solar arrays yet he knows nothing of how they work. he's new to the whole thing and much more of a bigger picture kinda guy. he has other subcontractors actually make them work. if he got a techy client he'd be screwed. they would probably know more about it than he, but he can get stellar deals on panels due to his mass use. he's a business man not an re man.

any discount i may be able to swing might be offset by the shipping to au.

let me preface this with the fact that my knowledge of grid tie is way less than battery charging but, i would much rather have a hard wired inverter. for example, if you plug this thing into the last plug on a string (and you don't know how the original electrician wired the house) then you may have line losses, then there's the option of creating a dedicated plug for the unit, but then you might as well hard wire it.

it sounds a little mickey mouse to me.

thoughts?
