Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

Hi Ross
I forgot to you about the footing is about 2 metre down approx 400 to 600 mm dia and that including galvanize street pole and there are millions of them around the world and all well design and that is the reason I am looking in to it so if l have abit of spare time l will try contract the pole manufacture in Brisbane and let you and everyone know soon.
By the way l won't be digging the hole anymore just hire bobcat with post digger as ground in my area is hard clay

Of those "millions around the world", how many have anything more substantial than a light sitting on the top?

It's probably fine. 2 metres down is *probably* into soil that remains substantially constant, and you're probably putting it at the top of a hill so it shouldn't sit in water and get all squishy. I'm probably just a scaredycat when it comes to sticking hefty things up in the sky. (I'm happy working at 60-100 feet without safety gear but I'm hyper-cautious when it comes to equipment up there!)

Enough raving, ........Milkwood, think about want you really want, source all available info you can. Wise choices, is where you will save a dollar

Thanks for the advice Trev.

I have decided on the following for now based on my 2 objectives of learning new skills and generating some useful power.

- go with the Oakley kit and put together a 3 phase bridge rectifer as described on this site. Never done any soldering or such so could be fun!
- stage 2 may involve converting a hub to neo magnets and connecting to the grid.

Again, thanks to all for the great info on this site. Much of it goes over my head but a lot is slowly sinking in!
