gday i have a s rotar and with a 3phase fisher and piker motor on it however i would like to know how to convirt the varing volts to the stable 14.5 volts needed to charge the btys.Edited by newstarter 2007-01-25

if u connect it directly to your battery through a rectifier your battery will automatically stablise the volts for you. pretty neat trick by the battery.
a charge controller will prevent over charge ;)

Depends on how much the open circuit voltage varies. If it varies in the region of 13 to 20 Volts then connecting it straight to the battery is reasonably effecient.
If the voltage gets to be much above 20 Volts then you are not going to get reasonable power transfer by connecting it directly to your battery. Some type of inverter (SMPS) that can produce maximum power transfer is possibly called for.
For example, the efficiency of a solar panel/battery system is only mariginally improved by using MPPT.
What are the low and high values of voltage are you seeing?
in reply, the voltage various from 0v o 180vmax however i have attached a car alternator to govern the voltage not go over 110v

Don't forget to put that all important diodes/rectitiers on the positive side of your circuit. Otherwise your stored up battery juice will discharge back into your motor or alternator.http://stores.ebay.com/The-Hi-Desert-Winds-Store
Uses a sprocket and chain around the s rotars fly wheel which is 15 feet in circumferance after it reaches 110v the
alternator is activated to slow down the fly wheel.
however it is still 110v which to my understanding is to much voltage to put in the battries so is there a simple way to govern the voltage down to 14.5v
