HI all i was recently on hols down at Portland Vic and noticed these two massive turbine blades sitting in a landforming yard, didn't know what they were for a few seconds due to the sheer size, mum thought they jumbo jet wings! They are 29 metres long weigh around 8 tons and are made of fibreglass. The rotor wieght combined 30 tons the gen nacelle wieghs 50 tons and the 50m high tubular steel tower wieghs around 80 ton. They are presumably destined for the nearby Codrington/Yambuk wind farm where there are 34 1.5 MW turbines. Having never seen turbines or a windfarm of that size before i was pretty inspired. Quite amazing to see these things in action up close! I dont know why people kick up a stink about the look of them, I reckon they look better and much more exciting than a coal fired power station! ![]() ![]() ![]() "Do, or do not... Hi sodes. Hope you dont mind but I shrunk those pictures a little. I visited Portland about 3 years ago and saw the same wind turbines, first time I ever saw a wind farm. I was there in the middle of winter and I remember it was very cold and very windy. Glenn The best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago, the second best time is right now. JAQ |

If you think coal fired power station looks bad. You should see the mess left by the minning to feed that monster. THE Pirate. stealing wind & solar energy is fun |
