Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

Hi All.

The server thats hosts this web site locked up last night, was down for over 12 hours , so sorry to all those that tried to visit but got nothing but the old Error 404 screen.

I'm building a new server for thebackshed to live on, and this may mean the site could be down from time to time over the next couple of days.

But dont worry, its only tempory.

Glenn

Well it was a horrid day. Installing Windows 2000 Server on a new PC proved to be a dissaster. Win2k is a stable OS now, and my prefered option, but it has problems with new hardware and drivers that dont work. I would rather use a 5 year old PC, a lot easier to set up.

But I managed to keep the existing server running today, though it locked up a few times ( "blue screens of death" they call them ). Hopefully in the next few days I'll get this new server working and then move TheBackShed across.

So again, if the site doesnt come up, dont worry, it means I'm pulling my hair out, but I will be aware of the problem and working on a solution.

I had been having problems off and on with the site ever since it got hacked. Running slow or timing out before loading. I have not had good luck with 2K pro but the one I had was an early edition.

Good luck and glad it is you not me. Thanks for doing it.

Yes its been a busy few days. I even considered running a Linux machine, but this means a new forum system and I would loose a lot of the other functions I've written into the site. Plus these days Linux is just as vunerable as Windows.

The server rebuild is going good today, disabled the onboard network card and pluged in a 5 year old SMC network card, and its running great!

I will move the site over today, so the forums will be down at some time.

OK, web site on new server. Just a little test to see if the upload and email functions are working.

Looks good.

If anyone has any problems please let me know.

Hi Glenn, It's working fine ,thanks for all your efforts.

From your previous post, I guess I'm living on someone else's life-mine surely got used up years ago.

Breathing's great it's the warranty period that worries me
