Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

Hello, Glad I found this message board, I have a few simple questions that I hope someone can answer.
1. A windmill has a tail to point it in the direction of the wind, Is there a stop piece put in place to keep the windmill from doing a 360? If not how do I keep the Wires from twisting over time?
2. Can I use a AC 3600 RPM rated generator to produce AC Current right from the getgo?
3. Can I use a windmill - solar system without a battery bank to direct feed my home? Dan

1) windmills generally dont have a stop, this could lead to bending the tail. the 2 most common ways to get around the twisting wire is to have "slip rings". these are like the contacts inside a motor to transfer power to a spinning object. the other way is to run the wire down the middle of your tower and let it twist up. with a plug at the bottom you can unplug your wire and let it untwist and then plug it back in. slip rings is your best bet if your in a turbulent wind area.
2)not really, 3600rpm is bit high, but this has been done before http://www.thebackshed.com/windmill/Induction1.asp
3)only for heating.

Thanks for answering my questions...
after giving it some thought I guess it would make scense to have a ring system, Like a cars 12 volt system the windmills pole would be the negative "ground" and perhaps a copper ring connection insulated in the middle for better contact for the positive.
Let me know if there is any pictures of the ring setup, Im still gathering ideas. Its funny how the most simple of things can seem complex at times.
I was wondering about 120 AC generating because Harbour Frieght sells a Generator Head for around $300.

I guess it would be wishfull thinking putting this up in the air with some blades and power your home.
Let me know what you think.
thanks!Dan
