hi guys..

ive got a setup now where i can sucessfully spin an unloaded F&P wound right in at 270RPM.. if i hook an 80SP to it, i can get between 22-24v DC from it..

However I need to be able to charge 24v battery bank, so need at least 28v+.. so can anyone tell me the best F&P wiring / equip to use to as this speed ?

Steve

Your sort of stuck between a rock and a hard place with that one. I take it you cant increase the RPM. A 80SP ( 2 coils in series ) at 270RPM your making 11v to 12v per coil. So 3 coils in series would be best, giving you 36v to charge yout 24v battery. But 14 doesn't divide by 3 very well, at best you can get 4 lots of 3 coils, with 2 coils left unconnected.
Do you have a 60 series stator you could use?

hi
I find the smart drive easier to rewind than reconnect all my efforts have been with 100 series . but a 100sp equivalent is only 6 turns per coil 14 * 6 = 84 as opposed to 44 * 2 =88. I have not got my info that says how many turns / coil on 80 series but if someone tells me i can work out turns equivalent to 3 coils in series. no need to worry about leaving oils out then

Hi guys..
Thanks for the replies,

unfortunatly no, i have 5 x 80 series, but no other types..

I am planning on getting one of the new magnet hubs though so i can rewire in 7phase.. hoping that this will help ?

Glenn your answer makes perfect sense.. We're wiring up a stator now as i type in this configuration to test first thingin the morning.. whats the downside of having 6 fngers unconnected though ?

Steve

Hi Guys,
Well we rewired a motor in the 3 pole configuration as suggested by glenn...

No Go.. the motor hardly spins at all now ??? whereas put the 80SP back on and she does the 270RPM no problems..

it seems the extra leg in series has increased the resistance too much causing it not to spin..

Ill try and source a 60series tomorrow and see how i go..

Hi Steve, I'm not sure what you mean.
On the bench, does it have a lot of drag with no load?
If so have a look for any shorts in the wiring.
I did that once.

doh.. i tested and double checked everything you know.. even checked Ohmage outputs to ensure everything was right.. no go..

Turned out that we had stuffed up though. when i'd labelled the poles to reconnect i labelled them in anti-clockwise direction.. not clockwise.. so now have to pull it apart and try again..
