Oh, I wish RossW would help out here, this is more up his alley. Don't worry about adjusting the controller at this stage. It appears it has an internal heat resistor to dissapate any extra current, so no need to add anything, as long as it works ok. Sounds like your unit doesn't have slip rings, you'll just have to moniter it regarding the mast twist. How did you go with the camera, is it a problem loading to the pc or to the web? Have you concreted the foundations yet? Also get some extra guy cable clamps, apparently those are only supplied with one for each connection, try 2, or 3 is better. Where abouts in oz are you? Thanks again highlander.Im up near Gin Gin QLD.Got some good breazes blowing around lately. So if i havent got slip rings can they be fitted? Ive got some extra clamps. Whats the problem with the tower supplied,isnt it heavy enough? Ive concreted in the foudations already. Am about to try and do photos i have to get them onto computor 1st then try and get them onto site ![]() dont wait. Been trying for an hour or so cant sort it out, am looking 4 a big hammer ![]() Have an olympus fe 200 trying to put it through the master disc setup nogo |

If you don't have slips you could fit them. I'de just get it up and see how it goes first ![]() As for the tower supplied, sorry mate I have never seen one in the flesh, so can't tell either way. Huh? What? Where? :) I got the 48V/1KW version of this mill, and it came with a controller same as or very similar to the one photographed above. What a useless PoS it was/is! In the first few days I had the mill, I got NOTHING out of it thanks to this controller. The mill was running plenty fast enough, but no output. In the end, out of frustration, I made my own very simple rectifier and stuck that into my batteries. I started getting amps immediately, and haven't looked back. I have a lot of base-load, and the wind turbine has only once so far produced more power over a day than I needed - so we did a load of washing to wash off some surplus watts. The point is well made though, that you really should have a dump load (or diversion load) with a turbine, for the event you do get lots of wind that you can't use. I've posted pics of my home-brew rectifier here before I'm sure, but if anyone wants them again just yell. |

Slick Sorry I might cross over some the other posts as I only browsed through them. If yours looks similar to my picture, then I would expect it is very similar if not the same wind mill. My unit is the same as the one Hilander referred you to. At the jaycar.com.au site you can get a copy of the installation manual Extending the cable. Our mills has no slip rings. 1. Are you going to use it’s own tower? If so the cable will be long enough to reach the ground. We used a 240 V plug to connect to the delivery cable. We did this because we were worried about cable wind up. One advantage of the plug at ground level it can be used to short circuit the mill for maintenance. Use 3 wires with alligator clips to jump from each leg of the plug, this stops the blades from turning while raising and lowering the tower 2. New tower greater than cable length (as with our new mill) Extended the cable with heavy flexible extension cord cable, 2.5mm square grey flex Light power cables are usually 1.5mm square. Too light for your application. We joined the cable using 3 insulated electrical connectors, each wire was then insulated with electrical tap then tapped together. For extra security cable tie a short section of cable across the joint with 2 cable ties above and below the join. If you only have to go 15-25 metres from the mill 4mm square will be OK. We prefer 6-10 mm square wire for 50 – 100 metres. This is all related to power loss, Voltage drop (Vdc) = Current (amps) x Resistance (ohms) Power loss (watts) = Current x Current x Resistance The resistance is the wire resistance for the round trip. (Tower to Battery x 2) Building cable is usually hard drawn and should not be used for any cable where it is moving. The hard drawn copper will eventually break. It is OK at ground level if fixed or buried. Blades I would suggest first off only add the wiper sniper cable down the back of the blade. As the other blade mod might reduce you light wind performance Tower erecting If using the pegs supplied with the kit, add extra star pickets and tie them together. Our pegs loosened when the clay they where in become wet. Remember the wind puts high loads on the cables. A cable at 45 degrees receives 41% more load than horizontal force on the tower. At 50m/sec wind load on our 15m tower, put 800kg of load in the long cable with out the force exerted on the wind mill. Controller refer picture above The 3 wires from the generator got to the 3 red terminals on the generator side. Use to pos+ and neg- out put to battery to your battery. If your controller works OK it has an internal load dump to control over charging. Connect to the battery first. Connecting the mill first will blow up the controller. |
