Hi all. I put together a small Miller Rotor as described by RonS. I stuck with the 1.6:1 ratio for diameter and chord, and my wings were 200mm long. Its driving a small stepper motor, but I'm realy just using the stepper motor as a ready made bearing. I stuck it on a post about 6 meters from my little Sandia Savious. ![]() ![]() In the background you can see the Sandia. The Miller starts up OK, needs a little more wind than the sandia, but once its going it matches the sandia for speed. I think the Miller needs some more investigation, it appears to work OK and I would like to apply a small load to see how it performs. I am glad you doing this, because you already tested Lenz and you ca tell us about both turbines. I vote with Lenz but Miller rotor can be a pleasant surprise. You newer scaled Sandia ... Hobbit name: Togo Toadfoot of Frogmorton Elvish name: Mablung Miriel Beyound Arduino Lang |

I too have made a Miller and its comparable to my savious. I'm having to rethink the blade support (It's balanced). It oscillates like crazy @ 200 - 400 rpms. Regards, Dubyagee |

Great to see people trying the Miller. Glenn, you might like to experiment with putting the vanes closer together so that it starts in weaker airs.(But you will lose some torque, of course. ![]() Regards, RonS Avoid strong drink. It makes you shoot at tax collectors ...and miss. |

Gizmo out of curiosity, What is the vane shape of the Sandia sav.? Never heard it mentioned before. Have fun with your experimenting. |

Hey Vawtman Check out my photos page here, bottom left of page. There is a small video and the plans, I think I originally found them on fieldlines. The sandia works very well, starts in the lightest of winds and spins faster than TSR 1, so must use a little lift as well as drag. Thanks Gizmo The problem with my early experiments with Miller type blades was probably related to the wide diameter i had them at.8ft x 8ft with 18in chord. Would be cool to see video of the miller in action. |

Hi Vawtman. I took the Miller apart to try another design, but I will put the Miller back together, it really did perform well for its simple design. If I get it back together this weekend I'll take a short video. Glenn The best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago, the second best time is right now. JAQ |
