Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

i have a 60 hp 480 v 3 phase fire pump motor i would like to make a windmill out of. what kind of percentage of power in watts will i recieve if it were spinning its full rpm rating on the nameplate.
would i be able to spin the motor with a large enough windmill? will i need some sort of gear reduction to spin the motor faster?
i was thinking of rectifying the ac output and charging large electric fork lift batteries with a stepped down dc current.

60hp * 748watts/horsepower = 44,880 watts. This is A LOT of power!
Probably about 100 times the power you would get from your typical "backyarder" windmill setup.
