Feral,
Did not download as there is already a wind turbine that has the features of this concept.

Hi fellas,

a bit off topic, but if I was to go with a mechanical arrangement, it would be a variable pitch HAWT.

This VAWT concept like LEU's windmill has large surface areas to be controlled. The v^3 problem would still exist.

maybe a separate thread should be started if there is enough interest.

cheers, Gordon.

Just heard from the supplier, that my chinese blades will not arrive before April - bugger.... They promised to indicate now on their website that they are currently out of stock.
Knowing my impatient nature, I will have to revert to some home-grown blades in-between.

Some of you may want to take a look at the cycle hub motors at www.greenprobike.com. They should make good generators perhaps?

cheers

Faust, tried your email but no joy, will not go through.
Have a look at ebay item number 310027382034 i have got a set of these and they work really well and the hub goes straight on the chinese generator.

Sorry about that. Should work. I did not want to give my e-mail in clear text to avoid spam. Just type it in the usual way with the "at" sign as a "@" and "dot" as a ".".
I've seen the US blades but the UPS postage was skyhigh.

thanks

Faust

Here's some further info with more to come.

Blades arrived.
Pleasant surprise to find they are not solid but are extruded. I would rate the extrusion as quite good. Very light with a good finish though 95mm shorter than the old glass blades. weight 700g ea (glass 1,300g ea)

Comparison:

It's what they do to this quality extrusion that tells you it's Chinese. The tip (red) is a plastic moulding that is inserted into the extrusion. It is held in place by centre punching the aluminium, 2 on top n 2 below. God knows how these dimples stop the tip from flying off in a good spin cause I don't. Oh yes, a big gap on each is where the tip doesn't fit properly, but on the bright side, it gives the native bees and wasps somewhere to build nests.

now the mounting holes have a few issues too.
First, the holes are not the same dimensions. Old holes were 60mm wide x 60mm long CtoC, new holes are 60 x 45. Holes may have been drilled or chewed, not sure which. ("Grandfather Chan bought drill bit.. and looky... still workey.")
Axis of drill is vastly different for leading and trailing holes. See Pic.
no added support in hole area, and bolt clamping may crush extrusion or bolt may pull sideways through the thin wall thickness as blade spin loads the root.

Still I would cope with all these faults "IF" I can get a twist in it.
As I said the extrusion seems OK and I feel potential for a twist looks Vgood.
Will need to carve/shape 2 x clamps and devise a setup to twist yet maintain axis of blade and ensure consistency of the 3 blade twists.

Stay tuned..... Will post to forum when bent or busted.

Hello,
Do I look for a Internet address or on Ebay in China to buy three blades in alu, of 2 meter of long, to manufacture an AVWT of 1KW ?
Thank you by advance of your answers.

G'day Maxime,
The blades I have reported on here were purchased from an Australian importer as replacement parts for the wind generators he also imported. I have no idea where you can source them from in France. You say you want them 2 meters long. I am not aware if they are available in lengths other than the size I bought. There are other makes of blades available should you be able to purchase on an international basis. I am not personally able to suggest a blade suitable for a 1kw wind gen. I guess eBay or Google as a start point for your search. Or perhaps others can make suggestions.

Good Luck.

PS.
I believe you wish to build a HAWT (Horizontal Axis Wind Turbine) and not a VAWT (Vertical Axis Wind Turbine) as stated.

Hi all ...Here is what happens to these blades in a blow, and remove the red end things as they will fly out in the first good wind you get, one at a time and really unbalance the mill...

best of luck, and dipping the ends in resin is a good idea, but I think they will still break at the end of the resin...

BTW the holes are drilled that way to fit the original boss that has a 3degree twist G.
I have bought the farm...now I AM powering it...
