Hiya guy's, Well Dennis and I were busy early this evening quickly making some curved ply blades from some gear Dennis has bought. I've got 4 blades to setup on my folding tower next to my shed. As I was late getting home the pic's will be put on here tomorrow but these new type of blades do look promising. At the moment it's blowing a gale but whats the bet when the new blades go up murphy will pay a visit. Anyway Guy's I'm wrapped Dennis was so generous on giving me the honour of being the test dummy for these new blades so tomorrow hopefully I'll get some pic's up. Cheers Bryan  |

Hiya Guy's, Well a busy day and i finally got those blades up in the air. Heres a link to the pic's Dennis's Blades The angle the tip needs to be set is the magicial 3 degrees and this was easy to do as I have a snapon angle guage and I also used a laser to get the tips all set so they equal. What surprised me is when I went to balance them they were perfect and I didnt need to do a thing. . Now for the mounting Dennis suggested to use an old saw blade and weld the spline to it. I tried that first and found the saw blade warped badly, so scratching around my shed I found some RHS that fittied the gal pipe to a tee. So I fabricated the base and just welded on the spline, too easy.
As I had some wind around and Murphy took a sickie when I hooked a dvm to check the voltage it was showing 21 volts open circuit. Tomorrow I'll hookup the 200 amp guage and 70 volt analogue guage for voltage and hopefully it will be windy so I can do some tests. As always it will take time to test these blades so time for me to get that rpm pic project finished and a few other pic projects and truly test these blades out and give an honest opnion on them. thats all for now Cheers Bryan  |

Hi Bryan and Dennis.. Interesting material ,,construction ply ? What's the overall diameter,,interesting to see the rpm at that dia. Might be suitable for a geared drive . I have my ABS 13 footer on the test pole ,balanced and corrected the tracking yesterday, starts in almost no wind (unloaded) ,but dosen't seem to get up past ,say, 200 rpm ,but when I apply the disc brake ,you can't touch the disc after it stops,very hot. So, there sure is some power there. By the way , PhilM has a dual on his test pole and he gets very good results. Good luck Bruce Bushboy |

Hiya Dwyer, Eh mate I took down the blades yesterday and checked the angles hadn't moved then put a tek screw in each of the top saddles. That will stop them from flying off. But the first law of wind gennies always comes true bloody murphy pays a visit and yes he did turn up as soon as the tower went back up.  The f&p currently on there is a 80 sp rewound as per glenn's article in the silly chip mag and is paritially decogged. When I get time I'll wire up a 100 series and throw that on. But without any wind around it's a bit hard to do some tests.

Hi guys one thing I have found very usefull for hub construction is automatic transmission flex plates. I have used a few ford ones, weld a shock absorber washer into the center and it fits the f&p shaft. They are nice and strong and dont flex if you leave the ring gear on. The other advantage is they have holes in the correct places to mount 3 blades. cheers Robert 1555 W grid connect system since Jan 08 both vehicles running on modified, used vege oil. |

Vasi here is one of my very early ones using 200 liter drum segments for blades. It went quite well but the blades need stiffening. cheers Robert  1555 W grid connect system since Jan 08 both vehicles running on modified, used vege oil. |
