Hi all this is my second attempt at this so I hope it works out ! The motor came from a scrap commercial treadmill from the hospital I work at, here it is with a close up shot of the name plate. Here is the support /Yaw bearing for the motor, minus and here I would love some suggestions please, a tail boom. The big heavy lump sat on its mount. I think that I should try to post this now, before the whole page crashes on me again ,so thanks for looking and I would appreciate any help advise given Phil in the UK |

Hi John It is 21.2 amps, sorry picture not great as was probably taken working nights !! This is another one that I started but got side tracked by the Baldor one, is 600 rpm feasable here are a couple of beutiful Trogens and a 24v charger unit I scrounged from a redundent floor scrubber ,wish I could find more of these ! |

Yeah your right Amun-ra. If you want the windmill to furl in high winds then the motor should be offset out to one side. There is a fairly technical look at furling here - http://www.thebackshed.com/Windmill/Docs/Furling.asp. Furling isn't a must have, you can build a windmill without it, but you need to make it strong. Phil it looks like your on the right track, but if its not too late I would suggest a offset motor so you can build in some furling. The smaller motor would be best for 12v charging. It is possible to make a windmill to run at over 600 rpm, but a higher RPM means more wear, noise and time spent under the cut in speed in light winds. Nice looking motors, they are perfect for windmills. Glenn The best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago, the second best time is right now. JAQ |

Thanks guys for your replies,I do want to incorporate Furling ,I got a bit carried away with the fabricating and did not really understand how I was going to work the Furling boom, It would be reasonable easy to offset the motor with some plate, but one thought is the weight of the motor offset on the yaw bearing ,would it not drag/tilt slightly on the two tubes, without actually fitting the motor offset, I guess I will not find out but like I have mentioned it weighs a lot with out blades etc... Thanks again Phil |

Hi Ken I have just been looking at you story on other power and Zubblys what a coincidence !I have just posted on otherpower to see if there is any chance in doing any thing with it but it looks like I have balls up this one! by the way was it 2 1/2 you used for the bearing pipe. Thanks Ken |

Phil, the pic on otherpower shows the angle support to make it stronger. I did make that with 2 1/2" pipe to fit 2" tower and have also made them with 2" pipe for 1 1/2' tower. As good as you are and as bad as I am,I'm as good as you are as bad as I am! |

Thanks Ken ,could you tell me did you follow any particular plans for the tail boom angles etc..I have Hugh,s book wind power workshop, but I do not know if his idea would work ,on this type of set up. Also how was the 1 1/2"" pipe for a tower ? ![]() Thanks Phil |

Phil, I followed hugh's book for the tail and it seems to be fine and the 11/2" tower has held up but I would not go higher then 40' with 2 sets of guys. Ken As good as you are and as bad as I am,I'm as good as you are as bad as I am! |

Hi Phil, nice looking charger, but beware it may be a bit heavy on the little trojans you have there. I have had a bit to do with this type of charger, and it seems to be a bit heavy handed with the smaller trojans. If you feel it gives them too much giddyup and they get hot on charging, you may find that a few motor run capacitors in series with the 240v input will tame it down a bit. From memory they also have a tap on the power transformer for 260v which will lower the initial charge rate a bit also Just an observation of my experience with floor scrubbers, although in my case they were charged every day at the end of a shift. In it's current configuration.... keep an eye on the water levels. .........oztules Village idiot...or... just another hack out of his depth |
