Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

Hi Herb,

herbnz said  Use independant instead delta same thing Then you can get star two contacts shorting out one AC side bridge better tho to disconnect then short for star needs three change over contacts

Sorry mistake in two contact version should short out one end leg each winding

This was very close, to ideal star/delta wiring. The discussions on the other thread using rectifying diodes at the star point will make for a very smooth transition, as power to the load is not interupted. A single, double pole single throw relay will do.

cheers, Gordon.

Marc,

Whilst the Picaxe code has been given for Amps by Gordon, similar code could be used to simply switch star/delta on RPM with a Picaxe. The idea is similar to Commanda's LM2917 RPM switching.

From faint memory, the Picaxe can count pulses and can also detect the time between pulses, so no problem getting the RPM from the AC side.

So many solutions, so little time!

Hi Dom,

There are many ways to effect the changeover. I offered the amp solution as it more effectively represents the power. Other solutions may be more difficult to match the best switching point.

cheers, Gordon.
