There was some discussion about various blades a while back which made me take a look at buying some (previously too expensive), after spending ages making some from some 150mm fibre glass tube. Anyway... due to the good exchange rate (loads of USD for GBP - Yep I'm in the UK) I found some suitable blades on eBay which were from a supplier in the USA. The set I chose had a diameter of 110" with a starting bid of US$49.99 and shipping to the UK as US$96.90 so after bidding etc. (no body else bid )with postal insurance, came to a total of US$149.29. After PayPal had done their bit, the total price was £73.92. The delivery arrived via Royal Mail Parcel Force in about 10 days.

If you want to have a look at them, plus details of the company selling them, I've posted information here http://sunandwindy.bitz.me.uk/page08.htm.

My project is still ongoing, so I don't know how well they'll perform.http://sunandwindy.bitz.me.uk/page08.htm.Edited by The_Professor 2007-11-20

Hi Proff, I bought a set of the 6'8" ones recently and brought them back as hand luggage. Well BA managed to send them around the world twice before i got them back. one was damaged oh well. They look good but are hopelessly out of balance. They also appear very frail and I fear for their survival in our hail storms. hope yours work out, I still want to ry a bigger set too. cheers Robert

Hi professor,

You wrote on your website.

The inverter actually hums when generating, and its volume is greater as the power output rises, so its nice when getting things out of the shed to hear it humming loudly

Yes a friend has a Fronius inverter and it was installed in a garage. 2.5kW unit. Their unit make quite a hum also. Only problem, is the other side of the garage wall is the lounge.

I have 2 SMA units and you can only just hear them at full output. My solar panel combo, I selected for the highest inverter efficiency. This was not the combo that the supplier wanted to install. Minimum array volts to still give full output. You can check to system parameters to see if the inverter is operating at the max efficiency. Solar installers usually wire panels for the maximum voltage. If the inverter has transformer coupling then the highest efficiency occurs at the highest current for the rated power. I hope you get this?

cheers, Gordon.
